Back in 2012, we were working as a glazier for another outfit, driving between Sunrise and Fort Lauderdale, installing windows that had been sold on showroom samples with measurements taken by someone who would never touch the job. The homeowner, a retired teacher, had been quoted for “standard size” vinyl replacements. When we got on site with the laser, every rough opening was off by half an inch or more. The sales rep had padded the quote with custom upcharges he knew were coming. She sat at her kitchen table while we explained it, and we watched her realize she’d been sold a story, not a product.
